In fact, the obvious advantage of potassium oxalate as an anticoagulant is its solubility. After blood collection, potassium oxalate in the test tube dissolves and separates oxalate ions, which react with calcium ions in the blood sample to form calcium oxalate precipitates, thereby achieving anticoagulant effects. The use of potassium oxalate for anticoagulation is usually done at a concentration of 0.1mol/L in a ratio of 1:9 to blood. Therefore, when measuring blood cell volume without interfering with the morphology and volume of red blood cells, the potassium oxalate anticoagulant must be properly mixed with the blood ratio in the test tube. However, it should be noted that although potassium oxalate is commonly used in blood testing, it cannot be used to determine all components in the blood. Therefore, it is not suitable for the determination of potassium and calcium ions, as well as blood slide tests, and cannot be used for white blood cell and platelet counting, as it can cause aggregation of blood platelets and affect the morphology of white blood cells.
